Health Care for the Uninsured

Usually full of energy, Rosa was feeling tired and rundown, struggling to work and take care of her family. She knew something was wrong. But she had no insurance or money for a doctor. Then she heard about St. Mary’s Health Clinics and stopped in for a free checkup. The diagnosis: diabetes. If she hadn’t gone in, the disease might have cost Rosa her sight, limbs – even life. But with St. Mary’s Health Clinics providing medication, weekly monitoring and help with a healthy diet, Rosa’s disease is under control - and she is herself again.

Following a healing tradition that goes back to their roots more than 350 years ago, the Sisters of St. Joseph provide free health care for the uninsured through the St. Mary’s Health Clinics. Set up in donated space at locations throughout the Twin Cities and staffed entirely by volunteers, the Clinics provide a vital safety net for those with nowhere else to turn. By providing primary care as well as needed specialty services, we prevent costly intensive care and emergency room visits. And we help people get well before serious health conditions cause problems with families, school and work.
